Parking / Signage Strategies

Local Authorities frequently require various initiatives to meet development plan objectives such as alleviating congestion and improving accessibility at urban centres. One approach might be to adopt or enhance a parking strategy for town centres i.e. implementing short and long term parking areas to be administered under a parking management system. This approach would go some way to regulating the use of private car trips to urban centres as well as creating an additional revenue stream.

Signage strategies are adopted by some Local Authorities to ensure a consistent approach to directional information signage is used throughout a particular region. For these strategies to be successful an inventory of existing signage, together with a quality/effectiveness rating for each sign should be compiled. Strategic destinations in a region and/or key services should always be displayed at major junctions and improvements to the signage network should be recommended in this regard.
